JCS Painting uses Kilz blocking primer that allows us to paint over stains, smells and major discoloration. Using a Kilz allows us to cover substances and smells within walls and ceilings that would otherwise show or smell through the new paint. Traditionally it would have taken many coats of paint to cover the stains and smells that our team can now cover with simple coats of Kilz primer. There are a variety of primers that are meant to block stains, but Kilz has a large line of products including both water an oil based primers that do a great job of covering up tough stains.
There are many different intensities of stains, from major to minor. In the event you are trying to cover up a serious stain, you will likely be looking for Kilz Max, and if it’s a lighter stain, then you should likely choose Kilz Premium. Porous surfaces can absorb top coats and result in lesser quality results in your paint project that will look uneven and undesirable. Priming a porous surface will help you get a professional look every time. You will also use much less paint by priming a porous surface first, and who doesn’t like to save money? Without proper priming to provide adhesion, paint may peel, flake, crack or blister. Don’t forget to properly prepare the surface before you prime. This will help ensure the best possible outcome.
Odors can pop up anywhere, including on the surfaces of your home or business. When you want odors covered up, standard paint just won’t do as odor carrying molecules can penetrate the dry film of paint. Anytime you decide to change the colour of a space, priming before painting is usually a good idea. This is especially true if you are painting over very dark or very bright colours. Using a primer before painting helps to ensure you get the colour you planned and will save you paint in the long run! Standard Kilz Primer will satisfy most if not all priming needs. If you are planning you use a top coat that is a drastically different colour, or a very unique colour, you can look at the coloured primer line from Kilz, or tint the standard white to help make the transition easier and save even more top coat.
Use fewer coats of paint by doing the following: 1. Always prime first when covering very dark or bright colors2. Try using a tinted primer3. Make sure you have the right primer for easy coverage
Mildew is common in smaller areas where there is excessive moisture such as bathrooms. Painting over mold and mildew can help cover up the problem, but will only disguise it for a short period of time. Painting over mold and mildew doesn’t get rid of it and as such, Kilz primer should be used. For best results covering mold or mildew, follow these steps: 1. Clean the affected area2. Allow to dry completely3. Prime with Kilz4. Paint with a mildew resistant finish
Cleaning the affected area will remove the mold and mildew so it can’t return. Just remember to let the surfaces dry fully before painting. Any moisture on the surface will negatively impact the adhesion of the primer and paint resulting in poor results. Using both a Kilz primer and top coat that have mildew resistant properties will help the are stay clean in the future.
